Influences
After hearing the soulful and funky music of James Brown; Earth Wind and Fire; The Average White Band; Cameo; Ronnie Laws; Grover Washington, Jr.; Dexter Gordon and John Coltrane has influenced Tim Wicks to fuse the music styles of funk, jazz, and R&B over hot grooves.

History
In the mid eighties, Tim moved to New York City. His first gig in NYC was playing at the world famous Apollo Theater. Tim has made musical appearances with: Dave Matthews Band, Andre Ward, Mike Phillips, Jeff King Band, The City College Jazz Ensemble, The City College Hard Bop Ensemble, Lehman College Latin Jazz Ensemble, Nate Rawls Big Band, Watercolors, Lucius Clark, Cornerstone Baptist Church Ensemble, Naazir Pearson Quartet, Brandon Sanders Quintet, John D’earth, Nappyhead (The Funk Army), Supahero GoGo Star, Armani 2000, Zilo Groove, Deep Pocket, Creative Arts Ensemble, Keith Gamble and the Blues Cruise, Dangerous Intersection, Passion and Bodacious, as well as performing in the off-Broadway rock musical “Characters”and the film, Kill Your Darlings directed by John Krokidas.
As a music educator, he's had the opportunity to inspire and enrich young minds to excel in music with the Yonkers Public Schools, Rochester City School District and with various charter schools in New York City.
Furthermore, he’s studied saxophone with Benny Golson, Rich Perry, John Purcell, Sam Newsome and Music Theory with Dr. Roland Wiggins. Tim Wicks received his M.A.T. in Music from Lehman College and B.F.A.in Jazz Performance from The City College of New York. |
