Description
I'm an experienced bassist available for session, studio, and live gigs. I have professional equipment and have played in many of the venues in and around Rochester, and with several bands and local musicians. I can create grooving bass lines for your music, or play exactly what's written.
I've morphed into an acoustic/bluegrass/roots music bassist over the last several months, and have become well-versed in those styles. And I absolutely love playing those styles too!
I am currently the string bassist in The Varnish Cooks, Rochester's top Old-time string band. |
Roster
Equipment: Samuel Shen (Paul Strelau designed) carved double bass; Revolution Solo II piezo transducer/pickup for double bass; Fender Jazz Bass; Fender Jazz Bass Fretless; SX (Fender clone) 5-string Jazz Bass; SX Precision/Jazz hybrid Bass; SWR 2X10C combo amplifier (260W/400W with ext. speaker) Rarely-used Boss Bass Chorus pedal |
Influences
I'm influenced by good music, regardless of style. I strive for versatility in my listening and playing.
Bassists who have influenced my electric bass playing include Roger Waters, Geddy Lee, John Paul Jones, Chris Wood, and Mike Gordon, just to name a few. String bass influences include Edgar Meyer, Paul Chambers, Rufus Reid, Ron Carter, and my teachers Jeff Campbell and Fred Stone. |
History
I've been playing bass for 15 years, mainly the electric variety. I have some instruction on string bass, and have lately gained alot of practical experience playing in the roots/bluegrass style. I've studied music formally at MCC and SUNY Fredonia. My instructors over the years include Ray Riendeau, Dale Titus, Jeff Campbell, and Fred Stone. Bands and musicians I've played with include South Central, Jacoda, Don Anonymous, Time Lapse, Cole Gockley, and the Tripping Billies. |
