History
"Oh my gosh, they're just kids!" This phrase echoes through the audience as new listeners turn the corner to hear who is playing that great rock 'n roll.
Following in the tradition of a classic "Power Trio," Mint Jam was formed in 2004. They are not the typical "teen group" of today. Polished, professional and above all, MUSICAL, they have a wide appeal, ranging from their peers on up to the "50 something" crowd.
Mint Jam is led by 14 year old guitarist/vocalist Gabe Condon. Gabe received his first guitar at age 4 and he hasn't stopped playing since. Likened to a young Joe Bonamassa, he has played at open mic nights and with some of Rochester's best professional musician's since he was ten. In March of 2003, at age 11, he was invited onstage by the phenomenal guitarist Phil Keaggy at a Glass Harp concert to jam with the band. In 2004 he won the "Most Talented Kid" contest sponsored by WHAM channel 13 News by singing and playing his guitar along with a loop station recording or himself playing the bass and drums.
Influenced by the masters, such as Hendrix and Clapton, Gabe exhibits his own inventiveness incorporating his natural rock, blues and jazz sensibilities into each jaw dropping performance.
Gabe is backed by clean and solid percussion from 13 year old Ray DeSalvo. Ray has played the drums since he was 4. His father was part of the Rochester music scene in the 80's playing for a band called "Blue Axis" and has taught him well in the art of the "old school hard rock."
The trio is rounded out by one of Gabe's younger brothers, Matthew (12). He has played the bass since he was 8 and brings a smooth yet defining bottom end to the group.
If you love the classics like Hendrix, Led Zeplin and Stevie Ray Vaughan coupled with contemporary influences you are going to love this band. Mint Jam is today's emerging young power trio. They are the classic of the future.
