Description
When viewing Atonement from the outside, one may see a hardcore/metal band giving it their best shot. Also one may see a band that is trying to get into the already populated metal scene. These observations are pretty accurate. But only when looking at the members and the inside of Atonement can one see the true band.
Phil Tharp and Steve Goupil were the original two members and were looking for a vocalist and a bass player. They needed someone with promise and talent. Someone who would drive the band and aspire to be great. They found Josh; he was looking for a band to play with and had some great lyrics, character and maturity to add to the band. While still lacking a bassist, they did what they could without it as Burden of Proof. After a few months of finding no bassist that the band was comfortable with, Josh picked up the bass in order to get the full sound that a band should have. After which they became Atonement.
Their debut album, “Bleeding for Strangers”, which released September of 2006, examines various parts of a Christian’s life, before and after salvation and has ten tracks of diverse sounds that are reminiscent of Living Sacrifice, Norma Jean, and War of Ages. Their title track, “Bleeding for Strangers”, which was inspired by The Passion of the Christ, speaks of the story of Jesus Christ and what he did for mankind. The track titled, “You Loved Me” is about the crucifixion and the realization of an unbeliever about Christ. And “Dead Man Walking” refers to the life of a Christian after salvation with a fast paced, high energy rhythm. Atonement plans on having some more songs that add some more variety to their track list, including ballads, solos and covers. They are currently in the planning stage of a new project which, at this moment in time, is being referred to as “Bloodbought”.
Atonement is a band that truly works hard and puts their heart and soul into their music. They are constantly finding new ways to make their music’s quality so that their fans can have a good experience and new listeners will be pleased with their new found discovery. They have sent copies of their album to SRE Recordings and will be submitting demos to labels such as Flicker and Facedown. They have played one gig at Seabreeze Amusement Park in Rochester, NY; and are working hard on finding new stages to play at.
