Sherry began writing these songs in the winter of 2009. Sherry did extensive research on the animals at the library, in the field, online, at the zoo and at several local Colleges in order to make the lyrics as informative as possible. The lyrics all rhyme and the melodies are all original and written in a child's vocal range. The singers are all local children that Sherry trained herself. They range in age from 4 to 16. Sherry and the singers rehearsed for a year before going to a professional studio for the recording. The cover art was created by one of the Mothers. Keyboards are played by Andy Calabrese. The cd seems to appeal the most to children ages 3-10.
Sherry Widmer studied piano at the Eastman Preparatory School as a child and was certified as a music teacher at Ithaca College where she majored in voice and piano. Sherry did graduate work at Edinburgh University in Scotland, where she supported herself by singing at Festivals, private gatherings and pubs all over the countryside. She studied criminal law and organized crime at the Ohio State University before leaving to begin her career performing and teaching private piano lessons.
Sherry loves the outdoors and is an avid bald eagle watcher. In the summer she kayaks and swims throughout the Finger Lakes with her dog Marquis. In the fall and winter she loves to go for long walks in the woods with her faithful companion. She is a voracious reader of mystery novels and wildlife documentaries and loves to write simple rhyming poetry about nature and wild life. She also loves to teach and finds great joy in helping others live up to their potential.
